Rudin Lengo: A Pianist of Profound Artistry and Eloquence

Rudin Lengo is an award-winning concert pianist whose performances have captivated audiences across North America and Europe. A musician of compelling depth and virtuosity, he has earned numerous accolades, including first prizes at the Glenn Gould School Concerto Competition, the TD Elora Competition, and the Knigge Music Competition. He was also the winner of the University of Toronto’s 2017 DMA Competition and received second prize at the 40th William C. Byrd International Piano Competition. Other distinctions include the Mary Winston Smail Memorial Award for Best Pianist at the WAMSO Minnesota Competition, the London Kiwanis Festival’s Rose Bowl, and the Grand Prize at the Rotary Music Festival in Burlington.

Performances

In recent seasons, Mr. Lengo has appeared as soloist with several Canadian orchestras. He performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Kindred Spirits Orchestra under the direction of maestro Kristian Alexander, Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Hart House Orchestra conducted by Henry Janzen, and Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy with the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Choir led by Uri Mayer. Upcoming engagements include solo recitals and a performance of Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Georgian Bay Symphony under maestro François Koh.

Past Engagements and International Appearances

His earlier appearances include two performances of Rachmaninoff’s Third Concerto with the West Coast Symphony Orchestra in Vancouver, conducted by Bujar Llapaj, and a performance of Chopin’s First Piano Concerto with the Deep River Symphony Orchestra under Peter Morris. He was featured at the 6th Paderewski Piano Academy in Poland, performing with the Torun Symphony Orchestra, and also appeared with the Greater Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra in Chopin’s Andante spianato et Grande Polonaise Brillante.

Mr. Lengo has performed across Europe and North America, with solo recitals in Hastings (UK), Utrecht (Netherlands), and at major festivals and venues including the Ohrid Summer Festival in Macedonia, the Klasik International Festival in Albania, Bergen Ruïnekerk, Slot Schagen, and Vancouver’s UBC Noon Hour Series. He has also performed at Toronto’s Koerner Hall with the Royal Conservatory Orchestra under Tito Muñoz, and with the Torun Symphony Orchestra in Brahms’ First Piano Concerto. Other notable recital venues include Steinway Hall in New York, Orchestra Hall in Minnesota, and the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre in Toronto.

Festivals and Masterclasses

Rudin Lengo has been featured at many of the world’s foremost music festivals, including the Paderewski Piano Academy, the International Holland Music Sessions, the Banff Centre, Centre d’Arts Orford, the Chautauqua Music Festival, and the Toronto Summer Music Festival. He has played in masterclasses for legendary pianists such as Leon Fleisher, Menahem Pressler, Andrea Bonatta, Anton Kuerti, Jacques Rouvier, and John O’Conor.

Education and Early Development

Born in Tiranë, Albania, Mr. Lengo began piano studies at the “Servete Maçi” School of Music with Nedi Peku. He was awarded the Honorary Prize at the EPTA Bach National Festival and second prize at the Albanian National Competition Këngët e Tokes. After immigrating to Canada, he studied with James Anagnoson and completed the ARCT Performer’s Diploma at the Royal Conservatory of Music. His academic achievements were equally distinguished—graduating with a 99% average at George Harvey Collegiate Institute, he received the Governor General’s Academic Medal and the University of Toronto National Book Award.

Advanced Studies and Scholarships

Mr. Lengo holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Western University, where he studied under James Anagnoson and Leslie Kinton, supported by the F. K. Ashbaugh President’s Entrance Scholarship. He earned his Master’s Degree from the Manhattan School of Music under Daniel Epstein on a full President’s Award, and completed an Artist Diploma at the Glenn Gould School, studying with John Perry and David Louie on the Ihnatowycz Emerging Artist Scholarship.

Currently, he is pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Toronto with Enrico Elisi and Jamie Parker. His academic and artistic work is supported by a Performance Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Simmonds Graduate Fellowship, and the John and Barbara Vivash Scholarship in Piano Performance.
